Some Mindless Rambling

Posted July 20, 2009 | Category: Updates, Random | 4 comments.

I’ve got a lot running through my head that I’d like to write about… unfortunately, it’s late-ish and my thoughts aren’t behaving properly and coming out coherently. Oh, well. How to start…?

Well, it’s that week again. The week AP testing grades come out. I actually managed to open my own scores this time around (last year, I was too nervous and made my mother do it for me). I actually did pretty well! I managed to pass the AP Bio exam that I was so worried about in the fall- and I got a 4, which is better than I’d ever hoped! I managed to do as expected on my other two exams as well. Now all I have to worry about is preparing for next year’s AP exams. It never ends…

Related to testing scores, I was on Facebook a few nights ago, and a friend of mine and I were discussing our scores when another aquaintence of ours commented on my status (where we’d been having our brief discussion) with a blunt “i got a 1″. I didn’t know what to make of it. I’m not sure if she was just telling the both of us (though we do rarely talk), or begging for pity and trying to make us feel bad because we did better than she did (seeing as it’s OUR fault she failed and all, of course…) . I wasn’t even sure how to respond- it just seemed really out of place, especially from someone I hardly talk to. Oh, well- I’m sure I’m over-thinking it. (Just say ‘I’m sorry’ and move on, right?) But the real issue here: how do you deal with people who seem to begrudge you for being better than they are at something? How would you react? (No, I’m genuinely asking what you would do in a similar situation. I’m curious.)

In terms of RW new, I’ve added a few new photos and a freebies section: deskop backgrounds. They only come in my screen size because that’s all they were originally intended for, but I can try to re-size them if you ask. Suggestions for more are welcome!

I’m also looking at buying a new domain and re-doing the website, as you may remember from an earlier post. I’ve been brainstorming more ideas and I’ve got a few finalists: my favorite thus far is ispirata.net, which is “inspired” in Italian [just to confirm, it is ispirata.net and not inspirata.net- I didn’t make a typo, I promise. Though inspirata.net does sound quite nice- I think I looked and it either wasn’t available or it was a premium and costed thousands of dollars. Which I refuse to pay.], and next is oneseptember.net (which my sister does not like), both of which are presently available. I’d like to decide soon, so I’m taking opinions: which one is better? I’m also looking at a free domain host, anyone know of a good one they would recommend?

I want to promote RainysWorld a bit more (think reviews, promotion galleries etc), but I’m uncertain if I want to wait until after the name change/redesign to do so. I’ll probably just end up redirecting traffic from this site anyway, and I can re-add my new site.. I’m torn and rambling. Again. Thoughts on if it would be a better idea to promote now or wait? Also, more blog topic/article suggestions are always welcome.

Eh, here in Australia we call that sort of thing ‘tall poppy syndrome’. It’s kind of where someone makes you feel bad for excelling at something you’re good at. Although I’m not sure what that person’s actual intention was (to make you feel bad, or to simply state their score), I would probably just say nothing. Sounds stupid, I suppose, but I honestly wouldn’t reply at all.

Personally, I think ‘inspirata.net’ is a really unique and gorgeous name, so you should go with that one. ;)

Oh! If you’re looking for a free domain host, go to Bubble.nu . Kya is an amazing web designer and she’s great to talk to about web issues and stuff. She offers great hosting packages, too. I guess you can just ask her about getting your domain name, or something. :)

Good job on your exams :] I think your friend was just stating the fact, maybe trying to vent or wanted someone to make her feel better?

Anywho, I love the name oneseptember.net :] It seems like a sort of, very site-ish name, if you know what I mean xD Good luck finding a name :D

Nice work on the exams! ;D Maybe your friend “just thought I’d tell you”, or maybe she was trying to make you feel bad—I don’t know, I wouldn’t have been able to make anything of it, either. |3

I’m for inspirata.net. Mainly because I have an obsession with Italy and almost all things Italian, but the name does give a bright and unique feel. (:

That’s a weird thing to say…no explanation or anything? I probably just wouldn’t respond, although that seems somewhat mean…><

As for hosting, I kinda don’t have a site, but my friend does, and she uses bubble.nu. She hasn’t had any problems, and it’s not really hard to be accepted for hosting.

I really like ispirata.net. It just kinda has this calming thing about it…:)
I think that oneseptember.net isn’t original, and it doesn’t seem like a good site name to me. But it’s your site, so you decide. Great job on your testing!
